The legendary Pakistan bowler foresaw an incident during the second ODI between Australia and Pakistan in Adelaide. During the commentary, Akram was told that during his era, he and fast bowler Waqar Younis used to blow up the stumps and trap the batsmen leg-before-wicket. Akram jokingly said that this was because the bowlers did not trust Pakistan's fielders and hence, they would have to take wickets themselves. In a comical coincidence, Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi dropped the catch on the very next ball in the ongoing game, proving Akram's sarcasm to be true.
Akram joked, “We didn't trust our fielders. All we heard from the slip cordon was 'sorry', or 'we didn't see the ball'.”

Akram's words were proved correct almost immediately in the ongoing match. Australian opener Matthew Short tried to hook Naseem Shah, but it came straight into the hands of Shaheen Afridi fielding at deep square leg. Unfortunately, Afridi dropped the catch, causing an uproar in the commentary box.
Akram lamented, “Exactly (on what he was saying earlier). It could have changed the game and put a lot of pressure on Australia, but Shaheen Shah Afridi did not appreciate the height.”
When Akram was speaking on this issue, despite the incredible coincidence of the dropped catch, Pakistan did not face much trouble in the game. Shaheen Afridi compensated for his missed catch by taking the wicket of Matthew Short himself.
Haris Rauf took five wickets, while Shaheen took three, as Pakistan bowled out Australia for just 163 runs. Pakistan chased the target easily, with Sam Ayub hitting 82 runs in 71 balls with the help of five fours. And six sixes.
Pakistan's win meant they leveled the three-match ODI series 1-1 heading into the final game. It was also Mohammad Rizwan's first win as Pakistan's new white-ball captain.
