Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Women doctors, paramedical staff and other staff at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, have been distributed to blow whistle when they realize security threats in the medical college and attached hospital premises. After the gruesome rape incident of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, the issue of safety of doctors and paramedical staff in the hospital and college premises has been raised.

Distribution of CTs is one of the measures taken by the administration. Health care professionals have been asked to whistle in case of emergency, as this will enable them to signal quickly and loudly for immediate help. GMC Dean Dr. Kavita N. “It is not possible to provide security guards to every female doctor and paramedical staff,” Singh told Free Press. There is no problem due to crowd in the campus during day time. At night, women personnel face problems, so I have divided them to whistleblower if they feel unsafe on the premises, either during the day or at night. The security guards on duty will reach out to them and ensure that they are safe and healthy.

According to the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA), there are many challenges in the campus as far as security is concerned. Encroachment and overcrowding are two major issues in the campus. Unwanted elements roam around the premises without any purpose.

The Gandhi Medical College (GMC) campus houses Hamidia, Sultania and Kamla Nehru hospitals. The complex is always full of patients, their attendants, visitors and medical staff. Additionally, there are places of worship on the premises, so people of different religions come and pray.

Overcrowding at MGM, Indore is also a major factor and doctors have raised the issue with the concerned authority. At the same time, the issue of building a boundary wall in the campus of Rewa Medical College has been raised many times. Dr Manoj Indulkar, dean of Rewa Medical College, said, “Construction of boundary wall is a big issue and till now no concrete steps have been taken in this regard.”
