Shantinagar police arrested three people for allegedly kidnapping a 3.5-year-old boy with the intention of selling him in Bhiwandi. The police saved the boy.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Younish Shah (53), resident of Ramnagar area of Bhiwandi, and Pir Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed Shah (39) and Samsuddin Mukhtar Shah (45), residents of Kurla.
According to the police, the boy has been identified as Atiq Wadud Ansari, who went missing from outside his house. His mother searched for him and when he was not found she informed her husband and relatives. Despite their efforts, the boy could not be located. On November 17, the family reached the police station and lodged a complaint of kidnapping against an unknown person. A case was registered under Section 137(2) of the Indian Judicial Code.
Vinayak Gaikwad, senior police inspector, Shantinagar police station, said, “We formed a team of officers and circulated the boy's photograph across the area. After recognizing the boy's photograph, a hotel owner contacted us and informed that a man was being held at the hotel. The boy was seen being fed.” When we traced the man, he initially claimed that he had only given some food to the boy and did not know where it had gone. However, after reviewing CCTV footage of the area, we saw him holding the boy Shah on November 19.''
During interrogation, Younish confessed to kidnapping the boy and selling him to his relative Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed Shah, whose wife was childless, for ₹60,000. Yunish further revealed that on the day of the kidnapping, he took the boy to Narpoli area of Bhiwandi. Rafiq and his friend Samsuddin arrived in a private car from Kurla, picked up the boy and returned to Kurla.
