Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is currently touring Australia as captain of the India A team, has expressed his sadness over the dismissal of Maharashtra teammate and captain Ankit Bawne during the Ranji Trophy match against Services. Gaikwad questioned the umpires and the opposition regarding the out.
Gaikwad shared the video of the dismissal on Instagram and wrote, “How can this be given out in a live game? Even appealing for a catch is a matter of shame. Absolutely pathetic.”

Controversial dismissal of Ankit Bawne
When Maharashtra's score reached 63 runs for three wickets, acting captain Ankit struggled single-handedly and scored an inning of 73 runs. Bawane was caught by left-arm spinner Amit Kumar at second slip by SG Rohilla. However, replays showed that the ball had bounced to the fielder after taking the edge of Bawane's bat.
While the wicketkeeper and slip fielder were celebrating the wicket, Bawane was standing at the crease pointing towards the bounced ball. On-field umpires Nikhil Menon and P Jaipal consulted match referee Amit Sharma before giving Bawane caught out.
On-air commentators also pointed out this fact. “I think at first glance it seemed underwhelming,” he said. First the ball bounced and then went into the hands of second slip. They are claiming the catch and the umpire has given it out.'' Services spinner Kumar later took seven wickets, giving Services a 110-run lead over Maharashtra in the first innings.
Ruturaj Gaikwad's performance in Australia
Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently involved in the second match of his series at MCG. Before leaving for Australia, Gaikwad had scored a century in his previous match for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy. However, the opener has had a tough time with the bat, having managed only 9 runs in three innings so far.
India have lost the first unofficial match to Australia at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, Queensland. They will try to level the series by winning this match.
