Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma explained the reason behind the team management banning supporters from attending net sessions during the ongoing Test series against Australia. Rohit had made it clear after the second Test match in Adelaide that practice sessions are private and he is not in favor of any kind of public interference. Before the pink-ball Test, Indian practice sessions were open to the public, but it became quite disorganized and some players faced insensitive comments from the crowd.
“You know, net sessions are very private, and this was the first time I saw so many people during the nets. And when you are training, when you are practising, there is a lot of interaction And those conversations are very private. We don't want anyone to listen to those conversations because there is a lot of planning involved,” Rohit said at the press conference.
Rohit also jokingly said that if fans are interested in seeing him, they can come during the Test.
“There's a lot of talking going on. And the crowd is very close to that practice facility. There are five days of Test cricket. They can come and see us there,” he said.
Australia are back on top of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship standings after a comprehensive ten-wicket win over India in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval to level the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-1.
The Pat Cummins-led side has a points percentage of 60.71 and has moved ahead of both South Africa and India in the championship table, with the win in Adelaide their ninth win of the current cycle.
On the other hand, the heavy defeat means Rohit Sharma-led India have slipped to third place, and their points percentage has dropped to 57.29 after 61.11 after the 295-run win in Perth.
India now need to win their remaining three Tests against Australia in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to have a chance of entering their third consecutive WTC final to be held at Lord's next year.
