Former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star AB de Villiers has listed the players he wants the franchise to target during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. De Villiers was a part of RCB for 11 seasons, during which he reached the IPL finals twice, but failed to win the trophy. De Villiers mentioned that RCB's high auction purse (Rs 83 crore) will be beneficial to them in the mega auction, and urged the franchise to re-buy a former star.
“I told you, I want to be a world-class spinner. Let's bring back Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal). Let's stop messing around. Let's bring Yuzi back to RCB where he belongs. He should never have left,” De Villiers said firmly while speaking on his YouTube channel.
De Villiers named four players whom he believes RCB should definitely go after in the auction — Chahal, Kagiso Rabada, Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
“I really like Ashwin. All that experience, you know what you are going to get from him. He can win you games even with the bat in his hand. Imagine if we got the twin spins from RR (Rajasthan Royals) in RCB. Meets,” de Villiers said.
De Villiers also spoke for compatriot Kagiso Rabada and urged RCB to target the fast bowler.
“Please take Kagiso Rabada. Kagiso Rabada, Yuji Chahal and then we can think about Ashwin. If we get those three, we are talking about a tournament-winning bowling attack,” de Villiers said. “
“I have four priority players and I will spend almost all my money on them. Chahal, Rabada, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashwin. If you don't get Rabada, go for Mohammed Shami or Arshdeep Singh,” de Villiers said.
RCB will enter the auction with a purse of Rs 83 crore and three Right to Match (RTM) cards, with Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal retained.
The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
