Andhra Pradesh: A tragic incident occurred in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district when a two-wheeler carrying a bag full of Diwali crackers exploded, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to six others. The accident occurred on Thursday when two people were carrying 'Onion Bomb', a popular Diwali firecracker item.
The blast occurred when the bike hit a pothole near a local temple, causing the bag of firecrackers to fall to the ground and explode. According to some reports, the power of the blast was equivalent to that of an improvised explosive device (IED).
CCTV footage shows shocking explosion
The incident was captured in CCTV footage, around 12:17 pm, two men on a white scooter were seen driving fast through a narrow lane. As they approached an intersection where the road widened, the bike exploded, engulfing the area in a thick cloud of dark brown smoke.
Paper pieces of firecrackers scattered in the air and as the smoke cleared, two men who had narrowly escaped the explosion ran for safety, clutching their ears, possibly affected by the deafening sound.
Two-wheeler rider died tragically in massive explosion
According to a police officer's report to PTI, the explosion was so severe that the two-wheeler rider's legs and other body parts were broken into pieces. The pillion rider and two other people standing on the roadside sustained injuries in the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of the explosion, there was chaos, bike debris and firecrackers were scattered on the road.
Following the incident, the local police registered a case and initiated investigation to determine the exact cause and assess the safe handling and transportation of such powerful firecrackers.
