Tamil actor Vijay, in his first political speech at the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam rally, hit out at the state's ruling DMK, saying a family is looting the state through secret transactions. His formal debut in politics was held at the mega meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam earlier today.
“They do underground deals and allege fascism to cheat the minorities…in the name of Dravidian model you are cheating the people,” he said.
He also took a silent dig at BJP. “Politics of hatred is our enemy… Divisive politics and hatred are our enemies… I will maintain political decorum and political decency… This crowd is not for cash but for a purpose… to look back No need.” He added.
“There is a group which is creating division within the society. Those who create division are our first enemies. Those who claim to maintain the Dravidian ideology but are exploiting Tamil Nadu as a family enterprise They are our next rivals. While BJP is our ideological rival, DMK is our political rival,” Vijay said while addressing a huge gathering at Vikravandi in Villupuram district.
The 50-year-old star's entry comes amid a political vacuum in the bipolar state. The opposition AIADMK is still not able to recover from the death of party icon and former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.
The actor made his objective clear.
“I have not come here as additional baggage, I want to be a primary force in Tamil Nadu…” said Vijay, who recently confessed that he did not find it necessary to enter politics. “At first I thought why politics. But isn't it selfish to think about yourself?” He had said.
The superstar also announced that his party will contest all 234 seats in the 2026 assembly elections in the state. He also clarified that he is not against power sharing.
He said his party would adopt Dravidian icon Periyar's policy on social justice and women empowerment.
But there was one condition – “We will not adopt Periyar's 'No God' stance, we are not against anyone's faith.” Other icons of his party, he said, were women icons Kamaraj, NR Ambedkar, freedom fighter Velu Nachiyar and revolutionary Anjalai Ammal.
