Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Lokayukta on Friday arrested two employees of Raisen Municipality and the Chief Municipality Officer for demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for releasing the security fund of a contractor. Officials said an FIR has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Officials said complainant Rajesh Mishra, a government contractor, constructed a cremation ground in Raisen in 2021, for which he received payment in 2023. However, he was still yet to get his security deposit of Rs 3.50 lakh back.
Chief Municipality Officer Badri Prasad Sharma demanded Rs 1 lakh from Rajesh for releasing the security fund. Rajesh complained to Bhopal Lokayukta Police in this regard, after which investigation was conducted by Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, Bhopal Division, Suryakant Awasthi. Investigation revealed that Badri Prasad Sharma and two other municipality employees Shubham Jain and Jai Kumar forced the contractor to pay a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
On Friday, a team led by Deputy SP Sanjay Shukla and Virendra Singh laid a trap and asked Rajesh to call the three to Bhopal to take bribe. Badri Prasad, Shubham Jain and Jai Kumar were caught red-handed by the trap team when they were taking two checks of Rs 40,000 and Rs 60,000 from the contractor.
