Mumbai: The online feud between stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and OLA Electric founder Bhavish Aggarwal has escalated after Kunal reacted to a post alleging that OLA service centers are not resolving customer complaints. Instead, it was claimed that they hired bouncers to handle customers. An internet user shared a post tagging Kunal Kamra and claimed that OLA has recruited bouncers at all service centers and has stopped accepting more scooters for repairs.
The internet user shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that armed bouncers were sitting outside service centers and misbehaving with customers, including women. The user said, “Kunal Kamra, OLA has now recruited around 5-6 bouncers at every service centre… I just visited my nearest OLA service center and all the bouncers there are busy waiting for the customers, even the women. Seen arguing with customers. Is it like this?” The service we are getting?”
Kunal Kamra, reacting to the post, called on journalists to fact-check the claim. He said, “Please, can a journalist fact-check this? If it is true, it is truly unique – a sales team for the sale and a bouncer for the after-sale.”
Another user reportedly shared videos and photos of outside the OLA service centre, claiming that he had got an appointment to get his vehicle serviced that day. However, the staff was not accepting his scooter for repair, and there were armed bouncers at the centre. He said, “My OLA service appointment, ticket 05735050, is scheduled for 2024-10-20 at OLA Experience Center in Virar-Mumbai, and no one is taking my scooter for repair or providing job sheet. There are bouncers in the center with weapons to respond to customers.”
Many complaints have surfaced against OLA electric scooters since their launch. Many videos have surfaced on social media in which scooters are shown catching fire in the middle of the road. In some cases, disheartened customers have shared videos of themselves singing sad songs outside OLA service centers or carrying their scooters on carts as a symbol of the last rites. Customers have expressed serious concerns about the company's poor after-sales service.
The online feud between Kunal Kamra and Bhavish Aggarwal intensified after the comedian reacted to a post shared by the Ola founder. Bhavish Aggarwal had posted an update showcasing the Gigafactory, to which Kunal Kamra replied with an image of OLA scooters waiting for service. This sparked a public debate, with Bhavish Aggarwal responding to Kamra, calling him a “failed comedian” and sarcastically offering him a job at an OLA factory. OLA shares were also affected after the online controversy escalated. Shares fell heavily by 8.38% on NSE and 8.31% on BSE.
