KTR accuses BJP-Congress of “love affair” in Telangana

KTR meets Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and highlights alleged corruption in Amrit tenders

New Delhi:

Former state minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao told NewBharat TV today that Congress and BJP fight against each other across the country, but they have a “strange love story” in Telangana. Mr Rao, popularly known as KTR, is the son of former Chief Minister and BRS supremo K. Chandrashekhar Rao. He is on a visit to Delhi, during which he met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and highlighted alleged corruption involving Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the implementation of the AMRUT scheme in the state.

AMRUT – Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) – focuses on infrastructure development in selected cities in the areas of water supply; Sewerage, drainage, green spaces and parks and non-motorized transport.

KTR has alleged that the Congress government was promoting corruption in Amrit tenders to benefit a company linked to Revanth Reddy's brother-in-law Sujan Reddy. He has said that the company Sodha Construction had recorded modest profits in the years before the Congress came to power in Telangana and it lacked the competence to handle such large projects. He said, this raises questions on the tender process.

Speaking to NewBharat TV, the BRS leader said that he is hopeful that the Center will take action. He said, “This company lacks the necessary competencies. This is the biggest example of crony capitalism. BJP and Congress fight against each other, but in Telangana I saw a wonderful story of strange love. BJP Congress government in Telangana “Sitting silently against.” While Congress has 76 seats in the 119-member Telangana Assembly, BRS is the main opposition with 28 MLAs. BJP has eight seats in the House. Earlier, Revanth Reddy's brother-in-law had sued KTR for defamation over his social media post alleging corruption in the tender process.

The Telangana Revenue Minister said the BRS leader had traveled to Delhi to seek help from “big people”. He also questioned whether Mr Rao was in Delhi to “request” Union ministers to withdraw charges against him in the Formula-E race fund transfer case. The minister accused KTR of giving Rs 55 crore to the Formula-E racing company without cabinet approval. The matter is now being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the state police.

Ever since Congress ousted BRS to form government in Telangana last year, a heated exchange of words has erupted between KTR and Revanth Reddy on several issues. Many of these exchanges have also escalated to personal attacks, with KTR referring to Mr Reddy as a “cheap minister” and the Congress leader saying that KTR is “daydreaming” that his party will return to power.
