Kerala man gets 141 years in jail for raping step-daughter

A Kerala court has convicted a man and sentenced him to a total of 141 years of imprisonment for repeatedly raping his minor stepdaughter over several years, when her mother was not at home.

Manjeri fast track special court judge Ashraf AM sentenced the man to varying terms of imprisonment totaling 141 years under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, IPC and Juvenile Justice Act.

However, as per the court's November 29 order, the man will have to serve 40 years in jail as that was the highest prison sentence given to him and the separate sentences will have to be served concurrently.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7.85 lakh on the convict.

It was also ordered that compensation should be provided to the victim.

A police officer associated with the case said that the convict and the victim are natives of Tamil Nadu and the stepfather had been sexually harassing the girl since 2017.

On the advice of a friend, the girl finally told her mother, who informed the police, the officer said.
