A Congress MLA in Karnataka has asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to cancel some election guarantees, highlighting the paucity of funds, which has embarrassed the state government. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has slammed Vijayanagar MLA HR Gaviyappa over his public statement and said the party will issue him a show cause notice.
Speaking at an event recently, Mr Gaviyappa had said that the electoral guarantee had made it difficult to provide houses to people.
“It has become difficult to provide houses to the people because of the guarantee schemes. I request the Chief Minister to cancel 2-3 guarantee schemes which are not needed, then at least we will be able to provide houses. Mr Gaviyappa had earlier alleged discrimination in funding against his constituency, triggering talks of an internal rift in the state Congress. His allegations were refuted by district Congress chief Siraj Shaikh, who described him as inactive and his associates as RSS workers.
