The Karnataka government has appointed Bollywood actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador of Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL), which produces Mysore sandals soap.
The state government's order issued on Wednesday said that Ms. Bhatia has been appointed as a brand ambassador for two years and two days at a cost of Rs 6.2 crore.
The decision attracted Flacks from some sections of the society, who questioned their appointment.

Reacting to this, the state's Commerce and Industry Minister MB Patil said on Thursday that the decision was “aggressively to enter the markets from Karnataka” after much deliberations.
KSDL is the deepest honor and relationship for the Kannada film industry, Mr. Patil said, some Kannada films are also competing with Bollywood films.
The minister clarified, “Mysore Sandals remember a very good brand within Karnataka, which will be strengthened. However, the intention of Mysore Sandals is to enters the markets beyond Karnataka,” the minister clarified.
“The pride of Karnataka is also a jewel of the nation. So after consulting various marketing experts, it is an independent strategic decision of the PSU board,” said Mr. Patil.
According to him, choosing a brand ambassador very much discusses and considering the availability for any category if he has a non-perception agreement, social media appearance, brand, products and target audiences and target audiences and marketing fit and reconciliation.
The minister said, “Our vision is to touch the annual revenue of Rs 5,000 crore for KSDL by 2028.”
