New Zealand's star batsman Kane Williamson dug his own grave to get out on the first day of the third Test against England. After being set for 44, Williamson's attempt to stop the ball from England fast bowler Matthew Potts failed. The ball was seen bouncing from the ground and going towards the stump behind Williamson. This is where Williamson made a serious mistake. The 34-year-old player tried to stop the ball but the ball went straight to the wickets.
If Williamson had not kicked the ball, the ball might have bounced over the stumps and he might have survived.
The mistake ended the innings at 44 runs from 87 balls and was the second of three New Zealand wickets to fall within 34 runs.

Nevertheless, the Kiwis ended the first day with a respectable score of 315/9. At the end of the first day, a half-century by captain Tom Latham (63) and a quick inning of 50 runs by Mitchell Santner helped New Zealand reach the score. Williamson and Will Young (42) also made useful contributions.
Potts took three wickets for his side, with fast bowler Gus Atkinson also taking three wickets. In fact, Atkinson also became the second bowler in Test cricket history to take more than 50 wickets in his debut Test year.
Brayden Carse got two wickets, while captain Ben Stokes got one wicket.
Both teams are out of the race for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. New Zealand's hopes are high after beating India 3-0 in India, but their home series against England did not go according to plan.
England has won both the first Tests. After the first Test, both sides were docked three points from their WTC tally for maintaining a slow over-rate, basically ruining their chances of reaching the final.
