India is preparing to release KKR star Harshit from the Test team. Report shows why

According to reports, fast bowler Harshit Rana may be released by India to play for Delhi in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match. Originally a traveling reserve with the Indian Test team hosting New Zealand in a three-match series, Harshit Rana is reportedly being allowed to leave the national setup to help Delhi in the Ranji Trophy game against Assam . Following the unavailability of Navdeep Saini, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has requested for the services of Harshit.

Saini was named in the India A squad to tour Australia, making him unavailable for Delhi's next Ranji match. According to the Times of India report, Harshit Rana will miss the second Test against New Zealand, so he will be allowed to represent Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. Delhi will face Assam at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from Saturday, October 26.

Harshit joined Nitish Kumar Reddy as a traveling reserve released by India to play for the Ranji team. Reddy was released to play for Andhra against Gujarat. Harshit has previously played nine first-class matches, in which he has taken 36 wickets. He has also scored a century with the bat.

Harshit has been a regular part of the Indian team across all three formats since the arrival of Gautam Gambhir as head coach, who also guided him at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during IPL 2024. Format for India.

As this confirms that Rana will not make his debut for India before October 31, this gives Kolkata Knight Riders the option of retaining him as an uncapped player ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. An uncapped player can be retained for at least Rs 4 crore.

Rana was a key cog for KKR as they won the IPL title for the third time in 2024. He took 19 wickets, and was among the top five wicket-takers.
