The last few months have been very difficult for Virat Kohli. After consistent poor performances, Kohli decided to retire from the shortest format. However, runs are not coming easily from his bat even in the longer formats. The top-order batsman really struggled in the 3-match series against New Zealand, which India lost 0-3. His struggles have also been visible in net sessions and practice games, ahead of the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth.
Amidst the discussion about his form, Australian legend Glenn McGrath feels that due to some low scores on the Australia tour, Virat may fall further in terms of form.
“If they attack him hard, if he goes into the fight with emotion, there's a little bit of interaction there, who knows he might pick something up,” McGrath told Code Sports' Daniel Cherney.
“But I think he's probably under a bit of pressure, and if he has some low scores early on, he can really feel it.
“I think he's a very emotional player. When he's up he's up and when he's down he struggles a bit.”
Team India is undoubtedly under pressure after the 0-3 defeat in the home test match against New Zealand. McGrath is hopeful that Australia will put pressure on India from the very first ball and test their courage to come out of the situation they are in at the moment.
“Without a doubt, especially after the 3-0 loss against New Zealand, you've got a lot of ammunition to back yourself,” McGrath said.
“So put pressure on them and see if they're ready for it.”
Even India's practice sessions in Australia have not gone according to plan, with top batsmen like Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant etc. struggling to put runs on the board.
