Bengaluru:
Naming a baby can be a difficult task, and even more difficult if the couple doesn't agree. A similar case happened in Karnataka when a couple sought divorce after a standoff over the name of their child.
The controversy began when the 26-year-old man skipped the naming ceremony of his son, who was born in 2021. He did not go to the event organized by his 21-year-old wife because he did not agree with the name given by her. He had suggested naming it etc.
After months of arguments, the woman approached the court demanding separation and maintenance.
After this he also rejected many suggestions given by the judges.
However, last week, the parents were called by a judge of the Mysore Sessions Court, and an amicable decision was taken to name the three-year-old boy Aryavardhan.
The couple resolved the dispute and are now living with their child.
not the first time
Last year, the Kerala High Court upheld the name of a three-year-old girl after her estranged parents were unable to reach a consensus on what they should name her.
In an order, the judge said due importance should be given to the name suggested by the mother, with whom the child was living, while the name of the father should also be included as there was no dispute over paternity.
When the couple could not reach a consensus on the name, the mother approached the High Court. The court stated that when invoking paternity jurisdiction of one's parents, the paramount consideration was the welfare of the child, not the parents' rights.
