Belagavi:
A woman and a young girl were allegedly attacked by their neighbors in Karnataka's Belagavi and their clothes were torn on the suspicion that they were into prostitution. The incident has been reported from Vaddarawadi. According to the police complaint, the girl was living in the area for four years.
A family living nearby alleges that the girl's family is engaged in prostitution. The accused broke inside her house, dragged her and a young girl outside and assaulted them.
Police said the attackers claimed that strangers often visited their house.
The neighbors beat up both of them and tore the woman's clothes in public and recorded it on their mobile phones.
When the woman approached the police station, the officials allegedly refused to take her complaint for two days. After this she reached Belagavi Police Commissioner and demanded security, citing threat to her life.
Following instructions from the Police Commissioner, the local police registered a case against three people on Friday night. The police have started investigation and are preparing to interrogate the accused.
A similar incident was reported from Belagavi last December. On December 10, 2023, a 42-year-old woman was dragged, stripped naked and paraded outside her house. She was then tied to an electric pole and beaten, allegedly because her son had eloped with a village girl.
