A senior Congress leader in Telangana has filed a police complaint against Telugu superstar Allu Arjun over his new film 'Pushpa 2: The Rise', alleging that a scene in it insults the police force.
Thenmar Mallanna of Congress lodged a complaint at Medipally police station. Apart from the actor, the film's director Sukumar and producers are also named in the complaint.
Thenmar Mallanna particularly criticized the scene where the hero urinates in a swimming pool while a police officer is in the swimming pool. The MLC described the scene as humiliating and insulting to the dignity of law enforcement officers.
In his complaint, he demanded action against the film's director Sukumar and lead actor Allu Arjun as well as the film's producers. He urged authorities to take stricter measures to address aggressive portrayals of police.
The latest complaint comes after a major controversy over a stampede at a movie hall in Hyderabad during the film's premiere on December 4. A woman was killed and her eight-year-old son was seriously injured in the evening theatre. , is still in a coma.
Allu Arjun, who was present for the premiere despite being denied permission by the police, was arrested and is currently out on bail.
While the woman's husband, Bhaskar, says he is ready to drop the case against the actor, the state police has issued a fresh notice to Allu Arjun, asking him to appear for questioning at 11 am on Tuesday .
The matter is now turning into a political controversy, with the state opposition BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samiti targeting the Congress government over the violent protests that took place at the actor's house on Sunday.
The opposition is claiming that some of the attackers were from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's Kodangal assembly constituency.
