Mumbai: Malvani police have booked three Congress workers for disrupting the public meeting of Rashtriya Ulema Council Party candidate from Malad West, Shanul Sayyed. In his complaint, the 43-year-old said that the trio, including Nadeem Shaikh and his two unidentified associates, climbed the stage, threatened him and attempted to disrupt the programme.

According to the FIR, Syed, a resident of Malvani and a contractor by profession, had organized a public meeting on November 17 between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm near Fish Market, Gate No. 6 in Malvani. During the programme, Sheikh came near, interrupted Syed's speech on the stage and asked him not to discuss the Babri Masjid issue.

The FIR states that when Syed protested, the trio climbed the stage and asked him to concentrate on development plans. He reprimanded him and said that if his speech violated the rules then the Election Commission would take action. Sheikh then allegedly threatened Syed, saying, “Hum bhi dekh lenge ya (we will see it).” Ultimately the police intervened and brought Sheikh down from the stage, following which the meeting ended.

Based on Syed's complaint, a case was registered against the trio on November 18 under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and the Representation of the People Act. Congress has again nominated its sitting MLA Aslam Shaikh from Malad West.
