Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Mhow MLA Usha Thakur has called upon followers of Sanatan Dharma to keep 'a big stick, two swords and a gun' in their homes for the safety of their family and community. “If our gods and goddesses are armed, then the Sanatani Samaj should also be,” he argued, justifying his call.
The BJP MLA warned against the dangers of complacency, saying ignoring current events would be a 'serious mistake' for the Hindu community. Thakur made this appeal while reacting sharply to the recent remarks of Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, regarding Hindutva. Iltija described Hindutva as a 'disease' that distorts Hinduism and promotes violence against minorities, especially Muslims.

Thakur condemned Iltija's comment as 'treason'. Thakur said Iltija's words insulted the Hindu religion and the cultural ethos of the country. Thakur said, 'His heart and mind are sick.' He said that these comments insult the soul of India. Taking aim at Thakur, Congress state spokesperson Milap Shukla said that MLAs, who have the power to make laws, are talking about breaking the law by instigating people to keep unlicensed swords and guns in their homes.
