Bengaluru carpenter kills 14-year-old son due to mobile addiction and disinterest in studies; arrested

Bengaluru: Ravi Kumar, a Bengaluru man, was arrested for brutally murdering his 14-year-old son Tejas. The incident reportedly occurred after an argument over the boy's mobile phone addiction and lack of interest in studies. This horrific crime took place in Kumaraswamy Layout area.

The police received information about a suspicious death when they saw that Tejas's family was preparing for his last rites, while his bier was already ready. There were serious head injuries and multiple wounds on the boy's body, indicating a brutal attack. The post-mortem confirmed internal injuries caused by violent beating.

Minor argument led to deadly attack

Reportedly Ravi Kumar, a carpenter, was disappointed with Class 9 student Tejas over his academic performance and his excessive use of his mobile phone. Tragic incidents escalated after a minor argument over repairing the boy's phone. Enraged, Kumar attacked his son with a cricket bat and later hit his head on a wall, reportedly shouting, “I don't care whether you live or die.”

Tejas fell on the ground groaning in pain and his condition continued to deteriorate for more than six hours. Despite his deteriorating condition, he was taken to the hospital after his breathing stopped, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to an NDTV report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B revealed that the family often argued with Tejas over his studies and social habits. His parents claimed that he was in bad company, which increased the tension. These disagreements culminated in a fatal attack.

The accused father tried to hide the crime

After the murder, Kumar tried to hide the crime. He cleaned the blood stains from the body, hid the bat used in the attack and started preparing for the funeral to make the death look natural.

The police intervened, preserved the body for investigation and exposed an attempt to tamper with the evidence. Tejas's family consists of his parents and two younger siblings. Her father has been arrested and the local police are investigating the case further.
