Citizens of Bandra West are strongly protesting against the Bollywood-themed installation under Metro 2B pillars from Bandra to Juhu, calling it a project to please a contractor. He demanded that like other parts of the metro lines in Mumbai, bushes should be planted under the Metro 2B line and near the pillars.
“If the authorities want to invest in beautification, they should plant bushes that are soothing to the eyes and add greenery instead of artificial installations,” said Nazish Shah of Bandra, part of a group of environmental activists fighting for the conservation. Are. Bandra West Shoreline.
“We will officially raise our objections against this project. We have prepared a draft and in the next two days, we will write to the BMC, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and local MLA Ashish Shelar to remove those establishments which are an eyesore and can create nuisance. '' Shah said.
Former local Congress councilor Asif Zakaria also recently flagged off the way in which the MMRDA proposed to spend Rs 350 crore on Bollywood-themed installations under Metro 2B from Bandra to Juhu. “For any public project worth more than Rs 10 lakh, tenders need to be floated. However, in this case, no tender or expression of interest was invited. The MMRDA commissioner used his powers to start the project,” Zakaria said.
He asked, “The inauguration of the metro line is still a few years away. What is the rush to set up an establishment right in the middle of the busy SV Road?” Zakaria termed them “terrible structures” and wondered, “Will people stop on the sidewalk just to look at them? Expensive installations can be destroyed and who will maintain them.”
Zakaria, a former BMC standing committee member, has also written to the MMRDA, questioning the “undue haste” in appointing contractors and consultants and highlighting that there are more practical ways of paying tribute to Bollywood. “It's wasting taxpayers' money,” he said.
