Actor Vijay's party TVK opposes "One Nation One Election" plan

Chennai:

Actor-turned-politician Vijay's party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has passed a resolution against the BJP's “one nation, one election” plan. In the resolution, the TVK declared that the “One Nation, One Election” plan is against the principles of democracy and federalism.

The party also targeted BJP over NEET and demanded that education be brought under the state list. “As per our demand for state autonomy policy, education is in the state list. If the central government moves education to the state list, the state government can cancel NEET on its own. This executive committee opposes this obstruction of the central government. and also protests the State DMK Government for cheating the people of Tamil Nadu with fake promises,” reads the resolution on the NEET issue.

TVK has also targeted the ruling DMK over law and order, liquor sales and drugs and demanded phased closure of government-owned liquor shops.

The party also mocked the DMK's social justice slogan and said the ruling party should conduct a caste survey instead of demanding a caste census.

It also opposed the BJP and the Center and termed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, which is under review by a joint parliamentary committee, as an “attack against federalism” and wanted it to be withdrawn. “The Waqf Board Amendment Bill is being opposed saying that it affects the rights of Muslims. The central government will have to withdraw this bill which is against the federalism structure,” the resolution said.

The meeting resolved to follow the party's ideology and policies “wholeheartedly and steadfastly” while reiterating its commitment to secularism and social justice.
