How did the terror of the Andhra Pradesh woman come to light?

A decade earlier, her husband had gone missing, leaving her to live with her parents.

Hyderabad:

A woman found a wooden box that she thought contained electrical items for her new home. However, when he opened the crate, he found a dead body and a letter demanding Rs 1.35 crore.

The incident took place in Yendagandi village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The parcel reached the under-construction house of Naga Tulsi on Thursday night. According to the police, the wooden crate, delivered via autorickshaw, was thought by Tulsi to be a shipment of electrical goods promised by a philanthropist who had earlier sent him construction materials like tiles and paint.

A decade earlier, her husband had gone missing, leaving her to live with her parents. She later moved to a rented house, which was located about a kilometer away from her parents' residence, before starting the construction of her new house. Tulsi recently sought financial assistance to complete her new house. The philanthropist had previously supported him by sending construction materials. On this occasion, he was led to believe that the crate contained items such as motors and other electrical equipment.

But upon opening the parcel, Tulsi was horrified to find a mutilated body – twisted, wrapped in polythene, and packed tightly inside a wooden box. The body was that of an unidentified 45-year-old man, approximately 5'7″ tall. There was a chilling letter accompanying the body.

The letter claims that Tulsi's missing husband had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh in 2008, which has now become Rs 1.35 crore. It also warned the family of dire consequences if the amount was not paid.

According to police, the letter allegedly read, “Therefore, if you do not want anything bad to happen, you should pay.”

Tulsi's family immediately informed the police, who took the body to a government hospital for post-mortem. Police are investigating all the missing persons cases reported in the area over the past few days, as they work to establish the identity of the body.

Police are also questioning representatives of Kshatriya Seva Samiti, a local organisation, from which Tulsi had sought help to construct his house. Tulsi had submitted an application to the committee for financial assistance, and they had previously sent him construction materials. Police are investigating whether the delivery of the crate was in any way connected to his requests.

West Godavari Superintendent of Police Adnan Naeem Asmi said, “Bizarre case. We are hoping that the post-mortem, identification of the dead person, how the parcel was delivered and the handwriting on the letter will further our investigation.”

Adding another twist to the story, Tulsi's brother-in-law has been missing since the day of the parcel delivery. Police are investigating whether his disappearance is related to the body or not. Police are not ruling out the aspect of property dispute.
