A strange incident happened on the opening day of the pink ball Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval earlier this month. The floodlights at the venue switched off twice in the 18th over of Australia's first innings. Later, Cricket Australia issued a statement acknowledging the disruption and saying it was caused by a “brief internal switching issue”. The detailed reason behind the disturbance has now come to light. It was Nathan Lyon's request that created chaos.
Former cricketer and Australian media personality James Brayshaw spoke to Lyon about the incident on day one of the India vs Australia third Test.
Fox Cricket quoted Brayshaw as saying to Lyon on Seven's coverage: “It made me realize that the lights went off twice and the reason was you because you're the nightwatchman and you wanted to go out and hit.
“So you said to the guy, 'Turn on the lights at the net so I can hit', and he hit the wrong button twice and turned off the lights on the entire field.”
Lyon then revealed that the incident involved him and Australian assistant coach Andre Borovec and a security guard.
“I couldn't believe it. I was actually sitting there in the dark with my assistant coach 'Boro' and the security guard asked us, and we said, 'It would be great if you could light up,' me Need all the help we can' then the next minute it stopped,” Lyon said.
“I literally told Boro, 'I think he hit the wrong switch.' The lights are on,” he added.
Talking about sports, Australia won by 10 wickets and leveled the five-match series 1-1.
