Former cricketer Anil Kumble on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna and said it was a huge loss for the state. Krishna died on Tuesday morning at the age of 92 at his residence in Sadashvinagar. Speaking to reporters, Kumble said SM Krishna's contribution to the state goes beyond his tenure as a chief minister. “His demise is a huge loss to Karnataka…His contribution to the state goes beyond his tenure as a Chief Minister. His contribution to making Bengaluru 'Silicon Valley' and putting it on the map is something that will always be remembered.” ” .,” Kumble said.
Krishna was suffering from a prolonged illness and was admitted to the hospital in early August.
Krishna's longtime friend and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the last rites would be performed on Wednesday at Somanahalli in Mandya district, Krishna's hometown.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the demise and said that Karnataka will remain indebted to Krishna for his contribution in the development of IT-BT.
In a post on Twitter, Siddaramaiah said, “I am shocked by the death of former Chief Minister SM Krishna. Krishna's service as a state and Union Minister and Chief Minister is unparalleled. Karnataka will always be indebted to him for his contribution to development. ” IT-BT sector, especially as Chief Minister.”
Siddaramaiah further wrote that Krishna was the enemy of Ajatashatri and was also his guide in the early days of Congress.
“Krishna, who was a secret politician, was the enemy of Ajatashatru. Krishna, who was my guide in the early days of joining the Congress Party, was always my well-wisher. Krishna's foresight, disciplined life, gentlemanly behavior and studious attitude are the qualities of budding politicians. I also share the grief of his family and fans, who are saddened by his demise. I pray that his soul rest in peace.
Krishna, 92, was the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 11 October 1999 to 28 May 2004 and also served as the External Affairs Minister and Governor of Maharashtra during the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government from 2009 to 2012.
He joined the BJP in March 2017, ending his nearly 50-year-old relationship with the Congress. He retired from active politics last year.
