With the help of nine sixes during his brilliant innings of 77 runs unbeaten in 23 balls, Jharkhand recorded a spectacular 10-wicket win over Arunachal Pradesh in the Group C match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Friday. Meanwhile, in Rajkot, India fast bowler Mohammed Shami suffered an injury during Bengal's Group A match against Madhya Pradesh at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
MP won the match by six wickets after restricting Bengal to 189 for nine, with Shivam Shukla taking 4 for 29. Captain Rajat Patidar (68 runs off 40 balls) and Subhranshu Senapati (50 runs off 33 balls) scored quick half-centuries as MP secured a comfortable win.
However, more than anything, it was Shami's close shave that grabbed the headlines in the match. While bowling the last over of Madhya Pradesh's innings, Shami fell while trying to stop the ball and it seemed that the ball hit his shoe.
The fast bowler, who is returning after a long injury, looked uncomfortable and was holding his lower back while lying on the ground.
Center of Excellence medical panel head Nitin Patel, who was being sent to track Shami, immediately entered the field to examine the bowler. However, no serious injuries resulted from the fall.
In Kishan's Group C match involving Jharkhand, the opener was in destructive mood and helped his team chase down the target of 94 runs in just 4.3 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad bought the wicketkeeper-batsman for Rs 11.25 crore in the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
Anukul Roy (4/17) and Ravi Kumar Yadav (3/12) were the most successful bowlers among Jharkhand bowlers.
