A record number of fans turned out at Perth Stadium for the opening match of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, recording the highest attendance for a single day of Test cricket in Perth on days one and two. Additionally, according to data provided by Cricket Australia, the average number of viewers watching increased by 30% year-on-year, indicating immense interest in the match. The first and second days at Perth Stadium set attendance records for any Test match in Perth, with 31,302 and 32,368 people attending respectively. The total attendance was 96,463, the second highest total attendance ever recorded in Perth and the highest ever at Perth Stadium.
The Perth Scorchers also achieved an attendance record at their Webber WBBL match, which was held at the WACA Ground on the evening of the second day of the West Test, which meant that over 100,000 people attended the cricket over four days.
According to Cricket Australia, ticket sales for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series are 2.5 times higher than the 2018-19 India tour and the public has sold out of tickets for the first day at the Gabba in Brisbane.
