Konatham Dilip, a prominent member of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has been arrested by Telangana Police for spreading misinformation on social media, escalating the conflict between BRS and the ruling Congress. He was arrested in September after visiting the cyber crime cell to discuss a case filed against him. He has undergone a medical test and is being produced before a judicial magistrate.
Dilip, digital media director of BRS and a member of KT Rama Rao's core team, had reportedly posted videos of clashes in some districts of the state. Police allege that this has increased tension in the area.
At the time, there was speculation that he would be arrested as he was held for interrogation for 12 hours. But he was later released, the BRS spokesperson had said.
At that time Congress had criticized him. But BRS said he was being targeted for criticizing the ruling party and its chief minister.
This morning, Konatham Dileep had posted a picture of himself standing next to the stone lion. The caption read, ““Those who walk with a shroud on their heads are not afraid of death.” Which means “Those who are ready to walk the risky path are not afraid of death”.
Former Telangana minister Harish Rao has called the arrest Congress's “vendetta politics” and Mr Dileep should be released immediately.
“Congress government should avoid partisan and vindictive actions. Acting in an undemocratic manner while promoting public government is bad. Harassing questioners with illegal matters is a matter of shame. We strongly condemn the arrest of Telangana activist @konathamdilip We demand his immediate release.” Read a rough translation of his message on the hashtag: It was posted under “#CongressFeldTelangana”.
