A faculty member of the Government Medical College in Telangana's Khammam district allegedly took a student to a barber shop and got his head shaved, prompting the government to order a probe into the incident, officials said on Sunday.
Taking serious note of the incident that took place on November 12, Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha ordered an investigation into the matter and initiated action against those responsible.
Officials said this was not ragging.
According to state government officials, initially some seniors in the hostel of the institute told the first year student that this hairstyle was not appropriate for a medical college student and asked him to get it trimmed.
After the student got his hair cut, an assistant professor, the medical officer in charge of the anti-ragging committee, who also lives in the hostel, told him that “it looks strange” and took him to a salon and got his head shaved. Gave. , officials said.
After the matter came to the notice of the principal, he ordered the removal of the medical officer from the hostel on Saturday and also constituted a committee to investigate the incident.
The Principal said that it is not good for the Assistant Professor to be involved in such activity.
According to the faculty, it was not their intention to do so, but only to discipline the student.
