Bengaluru:
A biker was allegedly run over by the son of a Congress leader in Karnataka on Wednesday amid hit-and-run incidents across the country. Prajwal Shetty, 26, son of Congress leader Deviprasad Shetty, was arrested a day later.
Officials said Prajwal Shetty was driving the Thar SUV when the accident occurred. Around 5 am on Wednesday morning, he hit a two-wheeler with his car and ran away.
CCTV footage taken from a nearby house shows the SUV speeding across the road and hitting a two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.
39-year-old Mohammad Hussain, who was riding a bike, was seriously injured in the collision. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but died a day later.
The accused was arrested by Shirva police on Thursday, but sources said that he was granted bail after some time.
His father Deviprasad Shetty is a well-known Congress leader from Belapu village of Udupi.
Last month, another hit-and-run incident was reported from the nearby coastal city of Mangaluru. A speeding car overturned on the footpath, killing one woman and seriously injuring four others.
In July, a speeding car was captured on CCTV hitting a bike and two students in Raichur district. This horrific accident happened when the bike rider suddenly took a U-turn without paying attention to the traffic coming from the opposite direction.
