Andhra Pradesh MLA and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh today attacked YS Jaganmohan Reddy's YSR Congress in the state Assembly and accused them of insulting his mother and then “running away”. In an emotional speech in the House, he accused the former chief minister of protecting him by giving him tickets in the recent assembly elections in the state.
That message was later repeated in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“My mother was insulted. Don't you remember the insult to my mother that day? We never talked about Jagan's family. Chandrababu used to come to the Assembly every day. After insulting my mother, he Now I am questioning YSRCP – Why didn't your MLAs come? When you gave YSRCP tickets to those who insulted my mother, did you not protect them? Read a rough translation of the post.
His attack comes after YSR Congress boycotted the budget session of the assembly. The YSRCP, which lost the assembly elections, now has only 11 members in the House, including Mr Reddy.
Mr. Lokesh said that his father used to attend the state assembly every day and left the assembly only when his wife was insulted in the assembly.
This incident happened in November 2021. Although it was not clear at the time what was said about his wife, Mr Naidu later broke down in front of the media and vowed that he would return to the Assembly only if he won the elections.
Nara Lokesh accused the YSR Congress of targeting not only his mother but also women from the families of political leaders with whom he does not see eye to eye. That list includes Mr Naidu's wife and mother, Nara Lokesh's wife, Pawan Kalyan's daughters and even Jaganmohan Reddy's sister YS Sharmila, who is the state Congress chief after the rift in the family, and her mother.
With women being targeted to settle political scores, the Chandrababu Naidu government has launched a massive crackdown on social media posts that are derogatory to women.
YSR Congress or its chief is yet to respond to Mr Lokesh's allegations.
