The war of words in Tamil Nadu between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and actor-politician Vijay's fledgling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam intensified again on Monday, with Chief Minister MK Stalin accusing the “new parties” of trying to “finish off” the DMK. However, Mr Stalin played down the significance of such threats, declaring, “All I can say is, 'May those who scold us live'.” The reaction came a day after Vijay targeted the ruling party on several issues including liquor sale and law and order.
Although Mr Stalin did not specifically mention Vijay or his TVK, the context was clear, with the Chief Minister sarcastically saying, “…as (former Chief Minister and DMK icon) CN Annadurai said, I am just saying I can say that 'long live the insult of those people' and our intention is to do good for the public.
“We don't need to answer to others unnecessarily… We don't want to waste time because we don't have enough to serve the people,” the DMK chief said as he prepared for the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections.
“In a word, if I need to say something, I can say it'vazga wasvallargal' (Translated as 'Let those who criticize us live'). I am not worried about those things,” he said, “…even those who launch new parties (this comment is seen as a dig at Vijay) also want to eliminate the DMK. Are.”
To that end, Mr Stalin this morning slammed “some media” publications for circulating videos of last year's devastating floods claiming waterlogging occurred after heavy rains in October.
“Some media used scenes from last year's floods to claim that there is waterlogging now… Some do, not all. Please don't mistake me… (but) they don't like the rise of DMK Is,” she said,
“All I can politely ask them is to think about our achievements in the last nearly four years.”
On Sunday, Vijay's TVK launched a multi-pronged attack on the DMK and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of selling liquor through government-controlled shops to boost revenue, while giving Rs 1,000 monthly to women. . He wanted the state government to close government liquor shops in a phased manner. He also criticized the latter on the controversial NEET issue

The DMK and AIADMK and the Dravidian ideology at their core dominate the politics of Tamil Nadu, making it almost impossible for national parties like the BJP and Congress to make their mark. TVK will be hoping to break that hold with the help of the actor's immense popularity.
Perhaps predictably, TVK has not received a favorable response from either the DMK or the AIADMK.
Earlier, Vijay accused the DMK and the legacy of the Chief Minister and his family of betraying the people of Tamil Nadu “in the name of the Dravidian model”.
Last week the ruling party dismissed the newcomer's political ideology as copied from his books, while the opposition party called it a “cocktail” of different political positions.
“These are all our policies, he is copying… Whatever he says is what we have already said and which we are following,” DMK's TKS Elangovan told news agency PTI. “
AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan congratulated Vijay on entering politics but said he still had a lot to do. TVK's ideology, he said, is “a mixture of ideologies of all parties and old wine in a new bottle…a cocktail ideology taken from all the political parties in Tamil Nadu.”
As for the Congress, which is in alliance with the DMK at the state and national levels (the latter under the banner of the Bharat Bloc), the state unit of the party, which is widely seen as a junior member of the DMK alliance, Has distanced himself from any conversation. An agreement with Vijay and his TVK.
