Mira Bhayandar: MBMC Fire Department Sprays Water On Illegal Firecracker Stock, Seizes Inventory;...

Mira Bhayandar: Taking a tough stand against illegally set up firecracker vending stalls in the twin city, the fire and emergency department attached to Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) sprayed water on a list of such stalls, rendering them useless.

On Sunday, the MBMC took action against eighteen stalls that were found to be either illegal or violating mandatory norms under the provisions of the Indian Explosives Act 1884. While water was sprayed on firecrackers in seven stalls, the entire stock was confiscated from four. The stall was installed incorrectly and buried in a deep pit. This is in addition to the closure of seven stalls after their licenses were suspended.

“Illegalities that are directly related to people's safety will not be tolerated. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanjay Katkar said, we have deployed a team of 29 fire personnel led by two station officers, who have been provided with water tender, rescue and pick-up vans to keep an eye on illegally operated stalls and take immediate action. Have been done.

Regarding security policy made by civil administration

In an effort to ensure that the lives of citizens are not in danger this festive season, the civic administration formulated a safety policy in terms of mandating guidelines for the sale of firecrackers in open grounds during Diwali. The civic administration has identified twelve grounds across the twin city where around 100 stalls can be set up, where firecracker sellers can carry out their business activities in a safe environment.

While a complete ban has been imposed on setting up of temporary cracker stalls in public places including roads and footpaths in the twin city, licenses were issued to set up their shops on privately owned vacant land and standalone commercial establishments (non-residential areas) . , even if there is proper permission from the owner. However, oblivious to the impending dangers, dozens of makeshift firecracker stalls were set up illegally on busy roads in the forward area, forcing the MBMC to take action against those who were found shamelessly playing with fire.
