Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) is set to expand the Indian core of its coaching staff by adding former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel as its batting coach for IPL 2025. Parthiv is ready to replace South African Gary. According to a report in Times of India, Kirsten took up that role after becoming the head coach of Pakistan. Parthiv is likely to feel at home in GT, having been born in Gujarat and having played for the state in domestic cricket for over 15 years.
Earlier, Parthiv Patel had joined five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) as a talent scout. After his retirement in 2020, Parthiv was involved in the role of cricket commentator and pundit as well.
Parthiv will join Ashish Nehra in the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans. As head coach of the franchise, Nehra led GT to two IPL finals in its first two seasons, and won the title in its first season in 2022. The report further states that former English cricketer Vikram Solanki will remain the director of cricket for Gujarat Titans. ,
Parthiv Patel has scored almost 3,000 IPL runs in 139 matches for multiple franchises. He is also a three-time IPL winner as a player, having won the title in 2010 as part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and in 2015 and 2017 as part of MI. He also played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK). , for Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
During his career, Parthiv represented India in 25 Test matches and 38 ODI matches.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are expected to retain Shubman Gill as their captain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, with Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, B Sai Sudarshan and Mohit Sharma also being seen as potential teammates.
