Delhi blast: CCTV footage shows exact moments of blast that blew out wall of CRPF school in Rohini; Khalistani link revealed in investigation.
New Delhi: On Sunday morning, a massive explosion took place in a wall of CRPF school in Prashant Vihar area of Rohini, causing panic in the national capital and the country's top investigating agency including NIA reached the spot to find clues about the blast.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Police said they were investigating possible Khalistani links to the incident after a post circulated on social media claimed that the blast was in retaliation for alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan separatists by Indian agents.
Delhi Police sources said it was a low-intensity IED (improvised explosive device) controlled by a timer or remote, without shrapnel or ball bearings.
A senior police officer told PTI that it is suspected that the criminals wanted to send a message to the authorities.
Following the blast, teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police cordoned off the area and forensic experts collected samples from the site.
Explosion captured in CCTV camera
According to police and witnesses, the blast, which was captured on CCTV cameras, destroyed a part of the school wall, windows of nearby shops and damaged some cars parked nearby.
The sound of the explosion was heard several hundred meters away.
Police suspect that the bomb might have been placed late at night. Local people said that it stopped between 7.35 and 7.40 in the morning.
The incident comes in the backdrop of a series of bomb threats to several airlines in the past few days.
Later in the evening, a purported screenshot of a Telegram post by Justice League India, along with a clip of the blast with a “Khalistan Zindabad” watermark below, was circulated on the social media platform.
“If the Indian coward agency and their masters think that they can hire dirty goons to target our members to suppress our voice then they live in a world of fools. They cannot imagine that we will How close and how capable we are to attack anytime #KhalistanZindabad #JLI,” Justice League India said in the post accompanying the clip.
In the video of the incident, dense clouds are seen rising from the explosion site.
Residents described the explosion as “intense” and reported a foul smell in the area afterward.
Local resident Anita Singh had just returned from a temple when she heard a “very loud explosion”.
“I felt a vibration in my house. It felt as if someone's cylinder had burst nearby. My children's school bus comes here and usually we stand at this gate (near the school) in the morning,” he said.
“But it was Sunday, so no one was hurt. I shudder to think how big a disaster it could have been had it happened on a weekday,” Singh said.
FSL and NSG teams inspected the spot and collected samples, while police registered a case under sections of the BNS “mischief through explosion” and the Explosives Act.
NSG commandos deployed robots in the area to search for more explosive material.
“White powder” and soil samples collected from the spot were sent to the laboratory to determine the composition of the bomb.
“The white powder could be a mixture of ammonium nitrate and chloride,” said a senior police officer.
The officer said the culprit chose this location “deliberately” not to harm people but to send a message.
In a statement, police said they received a PCR call at 7.47 am about a loud explosion.
Hearing the loud noise, people of the area came out of their homes and shops.
Sumit, a shop owner, said, “The window panes of my shop broke. Everything inside my shop fell to the ground. It was a very intense explosion.” Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said a multi-agency investigation into the incident was underway.
Saxena said, “I am constantly monitoring the progress of the investigation and assure that the culprits will be punished. In the meantime, I appeal to everyone to maintain restraint and not indulge in fear-mongering.”
Bharat Arora, president of the Action Committee of Unaided Private Schools, said that this incident is extremely worrying for schools in Delhi and across the country.
“This highlights the urgent need for schools to conduct thorough internal security audits and work closely with Delhi Police for support,” he said.
Chief Minister Atishi said the blast has “exposed” the law and order situation in Delhi.
“BJP spends most of its time in obstructing the work of the elected government in Delhi,” Atishi said in a post on X.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta, described his statement as “irresponsible” and aimed at hiding his government's failures.
