India's star Virat Kohli usually remains a ball of fire on the pitch. Particularly during his tenure as India captain, Kohli had built a reputation for wearing his heart on his sleeve and playing every game with an aggressive, but fair demeanor. However, a contrasting side of Kohli was seen on the third day of the first Test between India and New Zealand on Friday. As soon as Rachin Ravindra was out, the entire team went into celebration. However, commentators Harsha Bhogle and Ian Smith observed that Kohli had kept his celebrations subdued.
Ravindra was caught behind the wicket on the ball of Mohammed Siraj in the 89th over of New Zealand's innings. Not only did the entire Indian team go into celebration, but umpire Michael Gough also gave it out.
However, after a hesitant review, replays showed that the ball had not in fact touched Ravindra's bat, but a distinct noise appeared. Therefore Ravindra was saved.
Then former batsman and now commentator Ian Smith pointed out that Kohli had not celebrated at all during the entire proceedings at first slip. Replays confirmed that Kohli had not in fact celebrated.
Fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle then introduced Virat Kohli as the 'top' in his list of the 'world's most expressive people', and perhaps hinted that Kohli's muted reaction might have indicated that he was not left out.
