Chennai:

Three college students in Chennai have drowned in the outflow channel of Aliyar reservoir in Polachi, near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu this morning.

Those deceased have been identified as P Tarun Vishwasan, Revent M and G Joseph Anto Jennif for all physiotherapy students of a private college in Chennai. Investigators say that the tragedy took place when the students came down to bathe in the water body.

“There was no heavy outflow in that place, but it was deep. We are investigating,” the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore. Kartikeyan told NewBharat TV.

Fire and rescue personnel evacuated and removed the bodies of the students. The video shows emotional views as fellow students broke as the rescue teams brought their bodies to the shore. The Coimbatore police have registered a case.

Police say that about 25 students of the Seveta College of Physiotherapy were on an official visit to the college with their faculty in the field.

Aliyar Dam, Part of Parambikulam-Aliyar Basin, is a popular tourist destination at Polachi. However, these parts are also known for their depth and sometimes for the treacherous water.
